Day 3 ·Lysefjord
14 Apr 2028Arrive 07:30Depart 07:30The Lysefjord is a stunning example of the Norwegian fjords' spectacular natural beauty. Carved into the landscape by glacier movement in the Ice Age approximately 10,000 years ago, Lysefjord is lined by magnificent mountains and dramatic cliff faces – some soaring over 1,000 metres high into the unpolluted skies above.
In some sections of the fjord the water is as deep as the mountains are high, however at the shallowest point the water depth drops to just 13 metres. This means only small ships such as those in the Fred. Olsen fleet can cruise the Lysefjord.
Sailing along the glassy waters on board a smaller cruise ship is without doubt the best way to take in the fjord's eclectic sights. Lookout for tumbling waterfalls, wonderful wildlife and pretty settlements dotted along the shores; and marvel at the sight of the impressive Lysefjordbrua suspension bridge as so you sail into the fjord.
On a clear day it is possible to see the famous Preikestolen – a huge 604 metre-high flat mountain plateau – and Kjeragbolten, a large rock wedged in one of Mount Kjerag’s crevices. If you’re very lucky you may hear the gunshot-like bang of Kjeragsmellet – an unexplained natural phenomenon that’s particularly prominent in the winter months. - 4
Day 4 ·Oslofjord
15 Apr 2028 - 4
Day 4 ·Oslo, Norway
15 Apr 2028Arrive 09:30Depart 10:00Tucked into its own fjord and set at the water's edge, Norway's lively capital is a small and eminently walkable city with engaging mix of old and new, and graced by broad avenues, parks and elegant neo-classical buildings. Don't miss the enticing shops of pedestrianised Karl Johansgate and Bogstadveien, medieval Arkershus Castle, the eye-popping Vigeland Sculpture Park and Bygdoy Peninsula's Kon Tiki and Viking Ship Museums. - 5
Day 5 ·Aalborg, Denmark
16 Apr 2028Arrive 09:30Depart 10:00Aalborg's charming historic city, with its fabulously revitalized waterfront, sits serenely on the Limfjord, the impressive body of water that cuts through Jutland.
Often referred to as the Paris of the North, the city's well preserved medieval landmarks such as the 14th century cathedral and the half-timbered Aalborghus Castle – the castle that doesn’t look like a castle –nestle alongside the vibrant bars and cafes of Jomfu Ane Gade, possibly Denmark’s most famous street.
The Aalborg Historical Museum tells the port’s 1,000-year history, while bathing at the Havnebad outdoor pool, exhibitions at the Utzon Centre and the futuristic House of Music, are all worth visiting. The city’s friendly atmosphere is always a pleasure to explore. Away from the port, the nearby beaches of Bisnap, Møllestenen and Hou South offer a little rest and relaxation. - 6
Day 6 ·Lysekil, Sweden
17 Apr 2028Arrive 07:00Depart 07:30With quaint red and orange buildings scattered along its picturesque harbour, Lysekil has a distinctly ‘homely’ feel from the moment you call into the town.
Although small, Lysekil still has a number of attractions which are well worth a visit, such as the charming church from 1901, the Havets Hus aquarium and the Vikarvets Museum which delves into the history of the town’s stonemasonry and fishing industries.
Lysekil did in fact begin as a tiny fishing village, and today delicious, locally caught seafood such as crabs and mackerel can still be enjoyed in many fantastic restaurants.
Situated at the mouth of the beautiful Gullmarn Fjord, Lysekil is also a popular with keen kayakers and scuba divers, as the waters here are clear and still. Why not have a go yourself, or perhaps take a boat tour to appreciate the fjord’s scenery. - 7
Day 7 ·Copenhagen, Denmark
18 Apr 2028Arrive 07:30Depart 08:00With its vibrant atmosphere, modern culture and beautiful architecture, Copenhagen is the essence of Scandinavian cool. One of Europe's oldest and most popular cities, Copenhagen is also one of the cleanest and most cosmopolitan. Its narrow streets are always busy with welcoming locals and are lined with colourful cafes, bars, shops and places to eat. Its bridges ring with cycling commuters and the pristine waterways make visiting this city a wonderful experience.
The historic centre of Denmark’s capital, an 18th-century rococo district, is home to the Royal Family’s Amalienborg Palace, Christiansborg Palace and Rosenborg Castle, surrounded by beautiful gardens and is the home of the Danish crown jewels. The Little Mermaid sculpture at Langelinje Pier is a must-visit attraction too.
Take a wander through pretty Nyhavn – Copenhagen’s 17th century waterfront and canal district – and you'll revel postcard-perfect scenes of historic wooden ships set to a backdrop of brightly coloured 17th and 18th century townhouses, many of which have been converted into bars and restaurants. - 8
