Beauty abounds, with sparkling river waters flowing, verdant forests unfolding and a network of bike paths crisscrossing the town, linking parks and meandering by pretty buildings. With such impressive natural surroundings, perhaps it is no wonder that Baie-Comeau is named after a naturalist: Napoléon-Alexandre Comeau, who hailed from Quebec. Here in Baie-Comeau, the forest has a history of being both a naturalist’s haven and a commercial resource. The region’s first sawmill was built in 1898, and Baie-Comeau was founded in 1936 with the establishment a paper mill, built by Robert R. McCormick, publisher of the Chicago Tribune.
