On the banks of the Maas River, bisecting the city, lies futuristic-looking Bonnefanten art museum.

At the 17th-century Rubens House, period rooms display works by the Flemish Baroque painter Peter Paul Rubens.

Most of the mills are part of the village of Kinderdijk in the municipality of Molenlanden, and one mill, De Blokker, is part of the municipality of Alblasserdam.
