But it was the fur seal that put the Pribilofs on the map. Searching for a new source of furs, Gavrill Pribilof discovered St. George in 1786. Thankfully in 1984, the US ended all seal hunting here except for subsistence use. - 7

2 Feb 2027Arrive 07:00Depart 14:00Devil’s Island (Ile du Diable) is one of the three infamous penal colonies of the Iles du Salut archipelago (Islands of Salvation). The penitentiary was first opened by Emperor Napoleon III's government in 1852, and became one of the most infamous prisons in history before closing in 1946. Very few convicts ever managed to escape the island. One prisoner who became world famous was Henri Charriére, immortalized in the movie Papillon, for supposedly being the only convict ever to have escaped. - 20
